James R. “Jimmy” Fowler, Jr. awarded the 2019 IBSC Leadership Award

James R. “Jimmy” Fowler, Jr., Executive Vice President and Director of Commercial Banking and Strategic Initiatives, Countybank, Greenville SC, was granted the Leadership Award by the Independent Banks of South Carolina (IBSC) at the 55th IBSC Annual Convention on July 26, 2019, at The Greenbrier.

Mr. Fowler is a graduate of Wofford College as well as the North Carolina School of Banking and the Southeastern Trust School at Campbell University. Over the past 19 years, he has played an instrumental role in Countybank’s success, holding leadership positions in each of the bank’s lines of business, from retail and commercial banking, to positions with Countybank Trust & Investments Group, Countybanc Insurance and Countybank Mortgage.

He is Vice President and serves on the Legislative Committee for the Independent Banks of South Carolina.

Jimmy is a community servant leader, donating anonymously through his own generous giving or unquantifiable hours of service. He has served on the Advancement Council at the Greenville Healthcare Systems, a board member of the Greenville YMCA, on the Advisory Board for the Greenville County Chamber and as a program instructor for the Greenville Chamber Minority Business Accelerator program; earning the Champion Award in 2018.

Jimmy founded the regional chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in the Lakelands and has served on the board as chair for 13 years; spearheading the creation of an inaugural leadership camp. He is a very recent past Cancer Survivor Park Board member and treasurer; raising cancer awareness by providing organized educational programs to the greater Greenville community.

In addition to his esteemed banking career, Mr. Fowler has previously served as an Elder and Trustee at First Presbyterian Church, Greenwood, Chaplain for 7 years of the Emerald High School Football team, a Wofford College athletic mentor, Piedmont Technical College Foundation Board Member, to name a few.

Mr. Fowler and his wife Julie reside in Greenville and enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren.

The Independent Banks of South Carolina distinguishes leadership in community banking with this award and is selected from the 32 independent banks in South Carolina. The honor is awarded annually on the basis of outstanding service to the independent banking industry and to the local community.
