July 23, 2013

COLUMBIA, SC – July 23, 2013 – The Nickelodeon Theatre, South Carolina’s only non-profit art house theater and a leading voice for media arts in the Southeast, has named Janell Rohan Director of Programming.

As director of programming, Rohan will work closely with the Nickelodeon’s film buyer on weekly film programming, develop special programming ideas, oversee the theater’s Community Partnership program and work closely with development staff to create special opportunities for members and donors.

“Janell is joining our team after the Nick has grown tremendously since our move into our new theater,” says Andy Smith, executive director of the Nickelodeon Theatre. “She’ll also help shape the artistic vision for the Nick’s future. Having Janell on our staff also means that our entire leadership staff has an educational background in film, which is significant for the future of our organization as an arts institution.”

Rohan holds a Master of Arts in cinema and media studies from the University of Los Angeles and a Bachelor of Arts in English literature from Rutgers University. She is currently programming a “Bollywood and Beyond” series, which focuses on India cinema for the Walker Institute at the University of South Carolina. She also programmed the Nickelodeon’s first curated series, “National Treasures,” this summer.

“The Nick is a such an asset to the community, and I look forward to working with the Nick’s staff, members and audience members,” says Rohan. “Working at the Nick is the perfect combination of my skills and background in media arts and interest in programming film that can only be found at the Nick. It’s exciting to be working with the Nickelodeon at such an important time in the theater’s history as we’re making plans for our second theater and implementing exciting new special programming.”
