Joanie Thresher Chosen As USO South Carolina Director

Former USO Volunteer Hired to Lead State’s Only USO Center

ARLINGTON, VA & CHARLESTON, SC – September 25, 2009 – The USO proudly announces that Joanie Thresher has been hired as center director for the new USO South Carolina center at Columbia Metropolitan Airport, opening fall 2009.  Thresher, a former USO Georgia  volunteer, will plan, organize and direct USO operations, providing morale-boosting programs and services to military personnel and their family members. 

 Details:

  • Prior to joining the USO, Thresher was director of group sales at the Sheraton Myrtle Beach Convention Center Hotel, identifying opportunities to increase revenue and supervising a team of six sales managers.
  • For five years, she was a volunteer with USO Georgia, assisting with center operations as well as sponsor and volunteer solicitations.
  • Columbia Metro Airport’s existing Armed Forces Lounge will be converted into a USO center to serve more than 146,000 troops and their family members traveling through the greater Columbia area.
