Under general guidance from the Maintenance Senior Technician, performs maintenance and repair of meter stations, regulator stations, and all associated systems and equipment. Reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.
Principle Accountabilities include:
• Assists in the installation, maintenance, and repair of meter stations, regulator
stations, relief valves, and related equipment.
• Ensures compliance with all applicable codes, cathodic protection, and regulations.
• Assists in the maintenance of meter stations and regulator stations.
• Monitors, tests, and maintains regulators and relief valves; repairs, as necessary.
• Operates a vehicle and a variety of equipment such as a telephone, radio, ditch witch,
backhoe, tractor, lawn equipment, fusion machine, generator, welding tools,
pipefitter tools, mechanic’s tools, electrician’s tools, diagnostic instruments, hand
tools, power tools, pipe locators, lift equipment, meters, gauges, etc.
• Primarily interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as
the Maintenance Senior Technician, Superintendents, co-workers, contractors,
SCDOT, other utility system personnel, ORS, and customers.
Secondary Duties:
• Prepares required reports on a timely basis.
• Assists in maintaining an organized inventory of tools and materials used in daily
tasks.
• Receives and responds to inquiries, requests, and complaints from customers;
provides information or refers problems to appropriate personnel.
• Subject to on-call for after-hours and weekend emergencies according to schedule.
• Submits various records and reports including work orders, timesheets, charts, daily
work reports, leak reports, odorization reports, various cards, and logs, etc.
• Performs various other maintenance duties, including but not limited, to basic
grounds-keeping tasks, vehicle fueling and maintenance, painting machinery and
buildings, erecting signs, etc.
• Assists in maintaining a clean and orderly workplace.
• Performs related duties as required.
• Adheres to and enforces safety standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum 1 year of experience in a related field
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
• Demonstrated computer Skills.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
• Successful completion of Leak Survey Training.
• Within 24 months, obtain and maintain pertinent Operator Qualifications for covered tasks, as necessary.
Desired qualifications:
• Associate degree in a Technical Field
• 3 years’ experience in the natural gas industry.
• Possess and maintain a valid state of South Carolina commercial driver’s license.
• Electrical experience
• Training Experience
• Heavy equipment operation
• Telecommunications Experience
• Welding Experience
• Instrumentation and Controls Experience
Physical Requirements:
• Work is minimally strenuous but may require exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body; will involve walking or standing for extended periods. Primarily working outdoors and may involve working during inclement weather. Must be able to walk over uneven terrain.
• Must be available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and out-town, as needed.
