SCADA Technician

Under general supervision, performs skilled technical work involving the installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of SCADA systems, industrial control systems, instrumentation, telemetry equipment, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and communications networks used in the operation of water and wastewater facilities. Ensures the reliable collection, transmission, and reporting of operational data and supports the continuous operation of critical utility infrastructure.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following essential duties and responsibilities are required at all Pay Grade levels:
• Maintains and troubleshoots SCADA hardware and software systems utilized throughout the utility.
• Installs, programs, configures, and maintains PLCs, remote terminal units (RTUs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), and related control devices.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Customer service skills
• Skill in operation of hand tools and equipment.
• Knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, water and wastewater treatment plants, wastewater collection, and water distribution system.
• Mechanical Knowledge – pumps, valves, level indicator equipment, etc.
• Electrical Knowledge – control panels, VFDs, Relays, motors, low voltage, etc.
• SCADA systems and industrial automation principles.
• PLC programming and troubleshooting.
• Diagnoses and repairs communication failures involving radio, fiber optic, Ethernet, cellular, and other telemetry systems.
• Performs preventive maintenance and calibration of instrumentation, including flow meters, level transmitters, pressure transmitters, analyzers, and related process control equipment.
• Monitors SCADA system performance and responds to alarms, communication failures, and operational issues.
• Assists with the design, implementation, testing, and commissioning of new SCADA and control system projects.
