Job Description
Custodian

Department: Operations

Reports to: Principal

Supervises: N/A

Job Summary:
To keep the school building and grounds safe, attractive, comfortable, and clean so that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational program.

Essential Functions:
1. Participates in necessary painting and general repairs as needed.
2. Cleans and maintains the school grounds.
3. Participates in the general cleaning and maintenance of the school building.
4. Performs emergency repair or cleaning services as needed.

Education, Experience and Skills Required:
1. High School Diploma or GED.
2. Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of the tasks assigned.
3. Ability to develop effective working relationships with staff and
the school community.
4. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.

Terms of Employment:
Two hundred sixty (260) days per year.
Salary is dependent upon placement on the district salary scale for custodians.

Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy of evaluation of Classified Personnel.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move heavy objects. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climb ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.

Environmental Factors:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
