Conestee Nature Preserve (CNP) seeks part-time staff to set up and operate a pop-up Gift Shop and
Welcome Station in the Nature Playscape. This position will be primarily weekend hours and is compatible
with other full-time employment.
About the role:
The Conestee Nature Playscape, the first of its kind in the region, presents an opportunity for Conestee Nature
Preserve to connect thousands of children with nature each year through engaging and inspiring nature play.
This innovative outdoor space and its users benefit greatly from qualified staff presence and oversight,
particularly on the weekends when visitation is highest and full-time staff are generally not available. As a
nonprofit, there is also a need and opportunity to create earned revenue as many new visitors engage at the
Nature Playscape to offset operational costs. By setting up and operating a popup gift shop you will meet all these
needs and be a friendly resource for visitors to the Playscape.
Responsibilities:
● Operate Pop-Up Gift Shop and Welcome Station on a weekend day.
o Set up the tent and table and attractively arrange merchandise, educational materials and signage.
o Learn how to operate our Point of Sale devices.
o Provide resources to improve visitor experiences.
● Engage with visitors as they enter and exit the Nature Playscape. Provide great customer service while you
raise money through merchandise sales and Friends of the Nature Playscape sign-ups.
● Broadly monitor behavior and help shape culture in the Playscape so play is safe for visitors, built features,
and wildlife.
● Assist with private rental questions at the Nature Playscape picnic area if needed.
● Be knowledgeable about current projects and programs at the Preserve.
● Pre-shift and post-shift inspections of the Nature Playscape.
Candidate requirements:
● A passion for nature and wildlife.
● An interest in informal, environmental education and engaging with children.
● Strong customer service skills.
● Prior experience in retail or point of sale is preferred.
● Willingness to work outside in varying weather conditions.
● Able to work independently and solve simple issues is a plus.
Hours:
We need a candidate who can cover a full shift (8:30am-4:30pm) every Sunday. Additional hours on weekdays
may be available if more hours are requested.
Salary/rate:
$15/hour
