John Gettys named Lawyer of the Year by South Carolina Lawyers Weekly

John Gettys has been chosen as Lawyer of the Year for 2021 by South Carolina Lawyers Weekly.

Gettys received the recognition at the annual S.C. Lawyers Weekly Leadership in Law Awards event in Charleston on Friday, Aug. 20. Gettys was one of 27 S.C. attorneys being recognized at the event, with the Lawyer of the Year not announced until the end of the night.

He is one of the two co-founders of Morton & Gettys law firm, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

The Leadership in Law Awards honor outstanding members of South Carolina’s legal community who have excelled in their law practices, made significant contributions to society, and had an impact on the practice of law.

Gettys’ wide-ranging practice focuses on real estate, probate administration and probate litigation. He is the current mayor of Rock Hill, elected in 2017.
