Johnson going “Over the Edge” for Zoo

September 22, 2014

GREENVILLE, SC – The Friends of the Greenville Zoo will be taking part in the Upstate’s inaugural Over The Edge for a Brighter Tomorrow fundraiser by sending community leader Tammy Johnson to rappel the Bank of America tower downtown.
Over the Edge is a community fundraiser where 70 people will rappel 15 stories (228 feet) down the iconic downtown building. Each rappeler is raising money for a local charity.

The Friends of the Greenville Zoo chose Johnson as its “edger” for the October 4 event because of her commitment to the Greenville Zoo as well as the community at large, said Amanda Osborne, the Executive Director of the Friends of the Greenville Zoo.

“Tammy has been a big supporter of the Zoo and the Friends,” Osborne said. “We are excited to have her as our edger.”

Johnson is the owner of Liquid Catering and The Old Cigar Warehouse. Her business acumen has earned her the 2014 U.S. Small Business Administration Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for South Carolina as well as being named Entrepreneur of the Year by Business Black Box Magazine.

She served as the chairwoman of PULSE, the Greenville Chamber of Commerce’s young professionals group; served on the Chamber’s LEAD committee for two years and currently serves on the Chamber’s Board of Advisors. She has been named one of Greenville’s Best and Brightest under 35 and is a graduate of Leadership Greenville Class 39. In 2012, Johnson was appointed to the City of Greenville Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee. She also serves as volunteer Bar Manager for Euphoria and is a member of the Upstate Bridal Association.

“This is a very unique fundraiser and I am excited to be a part of it,” she said.
