Commission to Award $2000 Scholarship to Top Female Basketball Player

The Richland County Recreation Commission (RCRC) announced the inaugural Richland County Player of the Year – Girls’ Basketball awards ceremony.

When: Thursday, March 24, at 6:30 pm
Where: Parklane Adult Activity Center, 7974 Parklane Road
What: Girls Basketball Player of the Year Award
The winner will be announced during the ceremony. The guest speaker for the event will be Asia Dozier, a Richland County native, who was a two-time State Champion at Spring Valley High School and is now a Coach at Cardinal Newman. Dozier played basketball for the University of South Carolina and was named the Gatorade South Carolina Player of the year.

  • Spring Valley—Ariana Wilkes, F/C #23
  • Westwood—Thamia Davis, G/F #11

The following qualifications are required to be nominated for the award:

  • Senior varsity basketball player whose school is within the borders of Richland County
  • One nominee per high school
  • Nominees should have a minimum of 2.5-grade point average in core classes (English, Math, History, Science)
  • Nominees must demonstrate excellence on the basketball court and in the classroom and good sportsmanship
  • They must be a positive role model for their teammates, classmates, and the community. They must volunteer and be active in community service.

This award is a great opportunity to recognize some of the high school student-athletes in Richland County. The selected winner will receive a $2,000 scholarship for her hard work and dedication on and off the court.
