Join Trident United Way’s Lead United to make a difference

January 29, 2021

For 76 years, Trident United Way has welcomed community leaders to its board of directors and other groups to help build our community.

Now the time has come to build new leaders so Trident United Way can continue to bring our best and brightest together who are UNITED to improve our community.

You’re invited to apply for Trident United Way’s Lead United program. It’s a comprehensive community leadership and nonprofit board development program.

Lead United will equip participants with skills to serve on a nonprofit board of directors. This six-week program focuses on educating professionals and skill-building for board level service opportunities.

Training for volunteer board members often gets overlooked or is undervalued,” said Amanda Sito, Trident United Way strategic volunteer director. “When dealing with complex issues, sometimes nonprofits wonder why boards aren’t performing the way they first expected. The goal of Lead United is to prepare volunteers for board service by understanding the workings of nonprofits, why their work is so important to our community and how a volunteer can provide the best level of service. “

Additionally, participants will increase their understanding of community challenges for deeper engagement. participants will learn from content experts at Trident United Way and several community partners. They will also engage in a service opportunity together and hear from a panel of current board members.

“Several young community leaders tell me while they may not be able to give much financially, they are more than willing to give of their time; they just don’t know what to expect or what’s expected of them by serving on a board,” Sito said.

Trident United Way hopes to build up the local nonprofit sector across the Tri-County with high performing boards by developing a pool of trained and ready-to-serve volunteers.

Applications are due by Feb. 9 for the series of six two-hour virtual sessions. Visit https://www.tuw.org/lead-united to learn more.
