June Is Zero Tolerance for Litter Month in South Carolina
June 1, 2026June marks Zero Tolerance for Litter Month in South Carolina, a statewide initiative led by PalmettoPride and the South Carolina Litter Control Association aimed at reducing litter, illegal dumping, and unsecured load violations across the state.
Throughout the month, law enforcement agencies statewide will increase enforcement efforts targeting these violations. South Carolina’s litter laws carry penalties that can include fines, community service, and jail time, depending on the offense.
As part of the campaign, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety’s State Transport Police will conduct targeted load enforcement operations on June 5 and June 8 to help keep debris off state roadways.
Litter affects public safety, wildlife, waterways, tourism, and the communities residents call home. Debris falling from vehicles can also create hazardous conditions for drivers.
Residents are encouraged to secure vehicle loads before traveling, dispose of waste properly, and leave every place better than they found it.
“Keeping South Carolina clean is everyone’s responsibility,” according to campaign organizers.
