Junior League of Greenville Announces recipients of 2015 membership awards

Three Junior League of Greenville members receive highest honors for demonstrating extraordinary service to the Junior League of Greenville and to the Greenville community

GREENVILLE, SC – The Junior League of Greenville announced their 2015 Membership Award recipients during the 86th Annual Meeting of the Junior League of Greenville, held on May 12, 2015. Three awards are presented annually to members of the League who demonstrate above and beyond service to the Junior League of Greenville and to the Greenville community.

The recipient of the 2015 Jane Cardwell Hughes Sustainer of the Year Award is Kim Williams. This award is given to one sustaining member who demonstrates outstanding dedication and service to the Junior League of Greenville and the community. Williams served as sustaining representative to the nominating committee for two years in a row, meeting weekly to lend her guidance and support to the JLG members.

The recipient of the 2015 Frances Pearce Steele Provisional of the Year Award is Abbigail Harden. This award is given to one provisional member who goes above and beyond her provisional requirements and demonstrates outstanding dedication and service. Harden organized an all-female comedy night on Valentine’s Day at Coffee Underground, which raised $770 as part of the provisional group project.

The recipient of the 2015 Helen Horton Hunt Active of the Year Award is Kristen Maurer. This Award is given to one active member for outstanding volunteer service beyond her membership requirements and demonstrating voluntarism at its best. Maurer excelled in her volunteer placement by mentoring young mothers, organizing a Christmas present drive for the children at Serenity Place and collaborating health education services for mothers participating in The Family Effect.

The Junior League of Greenville is the first Presidents of Large Leagues (POLL) League within the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI) to set award criteria for their membership awards. Award nominees were graded against specific criteria for each award. The Award Selection Committee met, nominees were reviewed against criteria score and a recipient was selected for each area of membership.
