Jury Duty Scam Resurfaces in Laurens County: Stay Vigilant
January 5, 2025The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) is alerting residents to the reemergence of the jury duty scam, a scheme that has made rounds in the community before. While not a new tactic, scammers have grown increasingly sophisticated, using convincing methods to trick unsuspecting individuals.
Reports indicate that callers are impersonating LCSO employees, even using the names of actual deputies or investigators to appear legitimate. These fraudulent calls claim that the recipient has missed jury duty and now faces active warrants or fines. Scammers often demand immediate payment through untraceable methods, such as Green Dot cards, wiring money, or gift cards.
LCSO stresses that they will never call individuals regarding missed jury duty, active warrants, or to demand payment for any reason. Furthermore, fines are never accepted via unconventional payment methods like those listed above.
If you receive such a call, do not provide personal information, and hang up immediately. To verify any claims or address concerns, call LCSO directly at 864-984-4967 or contact Dispatch at 864-984-2523.
Residents are encouraged to stay cautious and report any suspicious activity. Remember, staying informed is your best defense against falling victim to scams
