Just Say Something celebrates 36 years of youth substance use prevention on Giving Tuesday

November 25, 2020

Giving Tuesday is the international day of giving held the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, December 1st, before the rush of the holiday season begins. This year, Just Say Something (JSS) is not only celebrating Giving Tuesday, it’s also celebrating 36 years of educating youth, parents, and others in Greenville County about the dangerous effects of e-cigarettes, marijuana, opioids, alcohol, and other substance use on developing brains and other risky behaviors. This year’s theme, “#36for36” reflects the number of years JSS has been in the field of youth substance use prevention, while emphasizing the fact that no donation is too small and all donations are appreciated, especially in this time of a COVID-19 economy.

During the month of November, JSS will continue to make families stronger and more resilient by providing the tools and skills they need to support healthy choices for their children and their family. Find out more about JSS’s services by following the Giving Tuesday-related Blog on their web site and the 36 Facts People May Want to Know About JSS, its history, and its programming on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Pinterest.

On December 1st, we’re asking the community to support us in continuing our mission by donating $36 to celebrate our 36 years as an organization. To keep the momentum going, we’re encouraging everyone to become a monthly donor to support JSS youth substance use prevention, internship, leadership, summer camp, and sports programs; parenting skills and coaching programs; and youth and parent text updates throughout the year.

Every $1 donated in support of substance-free youth and families….

  • Saves our community $10 in treatment services.
  • Keeps a child from taking that first puff of a cigarette/vape.
  • Keeps a child from taking that first drink of alcohol or swallowing that first prescription painkiller.
  • Keeps a family from the pain and stress of having a “system” raise their children
