KBR/Turner Joint Venture Receives 2011 Excellence in Construction Award for Boeing Assembly Building

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – January 10, 2012 – KBR/Turner Joint Venturerecently was recognized by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC)of the Carolinas with an Excellence in Construction Award for itsexemplary work and outstanding safety record in constructing The BoeingCompany’s South Carolina 787 Final Assembly Building in NorthCharleston.
KBR/Turner was formally presented with ABC’s Eagle Award — thehighest level award — at ABC of the Carolinas’ 2011 Excellence inConstruction Awards banquet held at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro,North Carolina, on November 16, 2011. The project won in the category,Industrial Projects — Over $50 Million. KBR/Turner’s project leadershipwas invited on stage to formally accept the award, a specially designedsculpture of the American eagle, symbolizing free enterprise. Inaddition, KBR/Turner’s Boeing South Carolina project was a Finalist forABC’s 2011 Project of the Year, and KBR/Turner received the 2011 FreeEnterprise Award for having the largest number of ABC members workingdirectly on the project. By winning an Eagle at the regional level,KBR/Turner qualified to enter the Boeing project in ABC’s NationalExcellence in Construction Awards program, the results for which will beannounced in early 2012.
KBR/Turner, with design partner BRPH, completed the Boeing SouthCarolina 787 Final Assembly Building in May 2011. Related projectcomponents completed by KBR/Turner since then include the truckinspection building, Welcome Center, Flightline, site cafeteria, andDelivery Center. The Delivery Center was the last major component ofKBR/Turner’s work package at the Boeing campus. KBR/Turner participatedin Boeing’s formal ribbon-cutting ceremony for that facility on November11, 2011.
KBR Building Group and Turner Construction Company have been partneringon select major projects in the Carolinas for nearly 20 years. In 2011,KBR/Turner announced that it had received a 2010 Boeing PerformanceExcellence Award. The Boeing Company issues the award annually torecognize suppliers who have achieved superior performance. Inaddition, KBR/Turner was named 2010 General Contractor of the Year bythe American Subcontractors Association (ASA) of the Carolinas(Charleston Chapter).
