Keep the Midlands Beautiful kicks off shoe drive fundraiser to support litter prevention
February 27, 2025Keep the Midlands Beautiful’s (KMB) annual shoe drive fundraiser begins March 1, 2025 and will continue through May 31, 2025. The shoe drive helps KMB raise funds to support its mission to engage, inspire and educate the Midlands to invest in our community through litter prevention, recycling and beautification.
Anyone can help by dropping off new or gently worn shoes at KMB’s office, located at 1305 Augusta Road in West Columbia. Shoe bins are located on the front porch. If your local business, school, church, club or neighborhood association would like to host a collection site, please contact KMB at 803-733-1139 or [email protected] for more information.
KMB earns money based on the total weight of the shoes collected. Those dollars are allocated towards core programs including purchase of signs, work gloves and litter grabbers for dedicated volunteers to conduct more litter pickups across Richland and Lexington counties. All donated shoes will be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of micro-enterprise partners in developing nations. Funds2Orgs works with micro-entrepreneurs to create, maintain and grow small businesses that sell shoes, which improves their families’ livelihoods. This year’s shoe drive is generously being sponsored by CMC Recycling.
“We’re so excited for this year’s shoe drive. So many people have extra shoes that they never wear. We’d love to have them donated to KMB so that we can keep shoes out of the landfill, raise money for our organization and help families in developing nations gain new economic opportunities. We see it as a win-win for everyone involved,” said Sydni Wilson, Program Coordinator.
By donating gently worn, used and new shoes to Keep the Midlands Beautiful, the shoes will be given a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives all around the world.
