Keith Benjamin begins as City of Charleston Director of Traffic and Transportation

CHARLESTON, SC – Randall “Keith” Benjamin, II started work today as the new Director of the Department of Traffic and Transportation for the City of Charleston. Mayor John Tecklenburg nominated Benjamin for the position at the April 25th City Council meeting where he received unanimous approval by City Council.
“I am pleased to welcome Keith Benjamin to our city as our new Traffic and Transportation director,” said Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg. “Many of our region’s most pressing issues are related to traffic improvements, road construction and better public transit options. Keith has the necessary experience to push Charleston forward and ensure we are on the cutting edge of traffic solutions.”
Benjamin is a graduate of Swarthmore College and previously served in the Office of Policy Development, Strategic Planning and Performance and led the Office of Public Liaison at the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Prior to holding these titles, Benjamin served as Community Partnership Manager of the Voices for Healthy Kids Community Consortium with the Safe Routes to School National Partnership. In this role, he was responsible for the recruiting and developing of public and private partners that were dedicated to creating healthy, accessible and safe communities across the nation.
He has served as a member of the National League of Cities Advisory Panel on Health Disparities, the Better Bike Share Partnership Equity Panel, the National Working Group on Healthy Food access with the Food Trust and the National Urban League and the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board Citizens Advisory Committee.
