January 25, 2016

Black River Electric Cooperative recently awarded a $50,000 Rural Development Act (RDA) grant to Kershaw County for infrastructure improvements to Governor’s Hill Industrial Park, the 200 acre county-owned park located at I-20 Exit 101. The grant will be used to further develop the industrial park currently served by the cooperative.

The Cooperatives, through The South Carolina Rural Development Act of 1996, are allowed to provide funds for infrastructure improvements at industrial parks. Allowable expenditures include water, sewer, and roadway improvements as well as land acquisition and shell building construction.

Black River Electric serves customers in Kershaw, Clarendon, Lee, and Sumter Counties and is 1 of 20 cooperatives in South Carolina. Together these Cooperatives serve more than 500,000 customers in over 70% of the state.

“Black River Electric Cooperative is part of this county and we are proud to be in a position to take advantage of the S.C. Rural Development Act. Economic Development is important to all of us and we are excited to partner with Kershaw County,” said Charlie Allen, Black River Electric Cooperative CEO.
