Kids can earn prizes Reading with a Ranger at Hampton Plantation this summer
June 9, 2026McCLELLANVILLE, SC — Looking for a way to keep your kids engaged, reading, and enjoying the great outdoors this summer? Hampton Plantation State Historic Site has the perfect solution. Starting this week, the park is hosting Reading with a Ranger, a family-friendly summer reading program designed to foster a love of books while connecting children with South Carolina’s beautiful natural and historic spaces.
The weekly program invites young readers to gather at the park’s Visitor Center for an interactive storytime hosted by a park ranger.
How the Passport Program Works
To make the summer even more exciting, the event features a statewide passport challenge. Here is how your little ones can participate and earn rewards:
-
Grab a Passport: Pick up a passport at your first event.
-
Collect Stamps: Attend Reading with a Ranger programs throughout the summer to receive an official stamp, the date of attendance, and a ranger’s signature.
-
Earn a Reward: Once your child attends 5 programs (either all at Hampton Plantation or spread across multiple participating South Carolina State Parks), take a photo of the completed passport and email it to [email protected].
Successful participants will receive an official certificate of completion and a special prize packet!
Plan Your Visit
The program is completely free to attend. Parents are encouraged to bring water for their children as they enjoy the stories and explore the surrounding historic grounds after the session. All completed passports must be submitted by September 7, 2026, to claim a prize.
