CHARLESTON, SC – September 12, 2012 – Effective September 15, 2012, the City of Charleston will begin a six month pilot program to change 14 Loading Zones located on King Street and the surrounding side streets between Woolfe Street and Hutson Street to Box Truck or Multi-Axle Commercial Loading Only between 5:00 AM and 11:00 AM Monday – Saturday.

Standard commercial vehicles, including those with P-Tags, will not be allowed in these 14 designated spaces from 5:00 AM to 11:00 AM Monday – Saturday.  All other loading zones will be available for standard commercial loading. The 14 converted spaces are identified on the map attached. The 14 loading zones will receive new signage which is also attached.

Due to the success and growth of the thriving downtown business districts, this six month pilot program is designed to decrease traffic congestion and increase public safety by preventing trucks from disrupting traffic flow at peak travel times.
