King Street Garbage and Trash Collection Pilot Program

CHARLESTON, SC – August 1, 2012 – The City of Charleston will begin a pilot program on King Street between Spring Street and Broad Street on October 1, 2012 to minimize the period of time that garbage carts and trash are on public sidewalks. This program has been created in response to numerous requests by King Street businesses and to improve the health and welfare of the public. 

Effective October 1, 2012, all garbage and trash must be placed outside of establishments and residences on King Street between Spring Street and Broad Street for collection no earlier than 11:00 p.m. the night before the scheduled day of collection and no later than 9:30 a.m. on the day of scheduled collection. All containers must be removed from the public right of way within an hour after pickup but no later than 11:00 a.m.
 
There will be a public information session held on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall Council Chamber (80 Broad Street) to address questions before the program begins. Questions can also be directed to the Environmental Services Office at 724-7364.
