Kiwanis Clubs to host annual “Field of Honor” flag display and scholarship fundraiser

The Kiwanis Clubs of Georgetown and Pawleys Island will host the annual Field of Honor® flag display from Nov. 7 through Dec. 12 on the front lawn of the former International Paper site, located at the foot of the Georgetown bridge.

The public tribute features hundreds of 3-foot by 5-foot American flags flying in formation, each bearing a personalized tag dedicated to a veteran, first responder, or military group. An opening ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 8, at 2 p.m., with a closing ceremony set for Saturday, Dec. 12, at 10 a.m. 

Proceeds raised from flag sponsorships directly fund college scholarships for local Georgetown County high school seniors. Over the past five years, the Field of Honor project has awarded scholarships to 33 graduating students.

Members of the public, families, and businesses are invited to sponsor a keepsake flag to honor or remember a loved one or service member. Individual flag sponsorships begin at $50, while major corporate sponsorship packages range up to $2,500 and include on-site signage and event program recognition. Unaffiliated donations are also accepted.

Following the closing ceremony on Dec. 12, sponsors may collect their keepsake flags or choose to donate them back to Kiwanis for future displays.
