K&L Gates’ Charleston office welcomes new hires

K&L Gates’ Charleston office welcomed seven new associates to the office:

Mr. David Caughran joins the Charleston office as an associate in the firm’s Corporate/M&A practice group.

Prior to joining the firm, he was an associate at a regional law firm, where he was a member of the public finance and economic development practices. In addition to the Corporate/M&A practice group, Mr. Caughran will also work with the Charleston Economic Development practice. Mr. Caughran received his BA from Sewanee (cum laude), and his JD from the University of South Carolina School of Law (cum laude).

Mr. Tre Holloway joins the Charleston office as an associate in the firm’s Complex Commercial Litigation and Disputes practice group.

Before joining the firm, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable M. Margaret McKeown of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and also worked as an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of a multinational Am Law 50 law firm. Mr. Holloway received his BA (magna cum laude) from George Washington University, and his JD from Harvard Law School, where he was an editor on the Harvard Law Review.

Ms. Katherine Hunt joins the Charleston office as an associate in the firm’s Asset and Corporate Finance practice group.

Prior to joining the firm, she served as associate in the lending practice group of a law firm based in Atlanta, Georgia. There, she represented regional and national lenders in negotiating and closing government-guaranteed loans secured by commercial real estate. Ms. Hunt received her BA from Georgia State University (cum laude) and her JD from Georgia State University College of Law (cum laude).

Mr. Michael Phillips joins the Charleston office as an associate in the firm’s Health Care and FDA practice group.

Prior to joining the firm, he served as an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of another global law firm, where he focused on health care, as well as privacy and cybersecurity issues. Within his health care practice, he primarily focused on health regulatory and transactional issues, including advising digital health companies, hospitals, and health systems on regulatory concerns. Mr. Phillips received his BA from the University of Virginia (with distinction) and his JD from the Duke University School of Law (cum laude).

Ms. Riley Ruppel joins the Charleston office as an associate in the firm’s Asset and Corporate Finance practice group.

Ms. Ruppel joins the firm directly out of law school. She received her BA from the University of Georgia (cum laude) and her JD from the University of Georgia School of Law (cum laude), where she was on the Editorial Board of the Georgia Journal of International and Comparative Law.

Mr. Kevin Schoonveld joins the Charleston office as an associate in the firm’s Asset and Corporate Finance practice group.

Prior to joining the firm, he served as an associate in the New York office of a multinational firm, where he represented private equity firms and their portfolio companies in structuring and negotiating a variety of finance transactions, including leveraged acquisition financings, working capital facilities, subscription line facilities, and refinancing transactions. Mr. Schoonveld received his BA from Wheaton College (magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa) and his JD from Fordham University School of Law (cum laude).

Ms. Amber Walsh joins the Charleston office as an associate in the firm’s Asset and Corporate Finance practice group.

Prior to joining the firm, she served as an associate with a leading international professional services organization, where she focused her practice in tax and M&A matters in both domestic and cross-border transactions. Ms. Walsh received her BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her JD and LLM from the University of Florida Levin College of Law.
