Komen Lowcountry Announces 2014 Race Chairs and Presenting Sponsor

June 30, 2014

CHARLESTON, SC – Jordan Freeman, a native of Charlotte, NC, has been named the 2014 Lowcountry Race for the Cure® Committee Co-Chair person, along with Murfreesboro, TN native Kathryn Roberts, for the 21st annual Susan G. Komen Lowcountry Race for the Cure® taking place on Saturday, October 18th at the Family Circle Cup Stadium on Daniel Island.

Both women have been actively involved in the Race for the Cure locally for several years. Jordan Freeman has served as a co-chair, PR/ media and stage committee chair in years past and has supported the marketing efforts for the Affiliate for several years. “Being involved has become a passion project of mine, partly to honor those I know who are fighting or have lost their fight to breast cancer — but also because I believe in the work of Komen Lowcountry. I have seen first-hand where the funds go from this annual Race and have met women whose lives have been changed thanks to our community grants. It’s powerful,” says Freeman.

Kathryn Roberts has been the volunteer coordination chair for three years. “Being involved with the Race for the Cure brings so much joy to my heart. All of the hours and hard work spent by so many volunteers — all of whom are on a mission to help save even one person’s life — is inspiring! I originally got involved because I believe in the mission of Komen and what this local group does to serve our community. It truly is more than a Race — it’s saving lives,” says Roberts.

Komen Lowcountry is also pleased to announce the 2014 Presenting Sponsor, Palmetto Primary Care Physicians (PPCP). “Like Susan G. Komen®, Palmetto Primary Care Physicians was founded as a grass roots organization – community oriented with a common focus of helping and caring for people in our local areas. We recently responded to the expanding need for women’s health services as a part of our primary care effort in our community – with a more centralized approach to women’s health. Promoting and providing screening mammograms, encouraging breast self-awareness – as health care professionals we recognize that education is key to early diagnosis,” shares Dr. Amy Black, a member of PPCP’s executive board.
