Konnichiwa restaurant leases Main Street space, will open new location in downtown Spartanburg

July 13, 2021

Colliers’ Greyson Furnas, CCIM and Dillon Swayngim represented the landlord in the lease of ±2,000 square feet of retail space at 198 W. Main Street in Spartanburg to Konnichiwa Sushi, Steak & Seafood for the opening of their fifth restaurant location in South Carolina. The Japanese-style restaurant also owns and operates two locations in North Carolina and one in Ohio.

The landlord, F.T. Cantrell Wagons, owns several commercial and residential spaces in downtown Spartanburg.

Konnichiwa will occupy the space next to Smallcakes Cupcakery and Creamery at the corner of W. Main Street and Daniel Morgan Avenue. Floors two through five of the building are occupied by residential tenants of Main and Morgan luxury apartments, also owned by F.T. Cantrell Wagons.

“Retail and restaurants are on the upswing after COVID-19 shutdowns last year, and Spartanburg is coming back faster than most, recently hitting all major benchmarks for economic recovery,” said Colliers Brokerage Associate Greyson Furnas. “We are seeing increased activity and a renewed interest in retail, restaurant and office sectors related to real estate leasing and sales in the Spartanburg area. The community really stepped up to support local businesses this past year and continues to foster a pro-business mindset that is very attractive for new investment. We are excited to welcome Konnichiwa as another great dining option in the downtown area and look forward to seeing them thrive at this location for many years to come.”

Konnichiwa owners chose to lease the space at 198 W. Main Street in part due to the high visibility and foot traffic this location provides as well as feedback from customers identifying Spartanburg as an in-demand market. The eatery will be within easy walking distance of many downtown landmarks like Morgan Square, the AC Hotel by Marriott, Little River Coffee Bar, RJ Rockers and Cribbs Kitchen among others.

The restaurant plans to open for business this fall, offering traditional Japanese fare like sushi, bento, hibachi and ramen for dine-in and takeout.
