La’Jessica Stringfellow appointed to SC Access to Justice Commission

March 7, 2021

Robinson Gray attorney La’Jessica Stringfellow has been appointed to the South Carolina Access to Justice Commission.

She was appointed to a three-year term by Chief Justice Donald W. Beatty of the state Supreme Court.

The commission was created by the court in 2007 “in recognition of the need to expand access to civil legal representation for people of low income and modest means in South Carolina,” according to the chief justice’s letter making the appointment.

“In three out of four state civil cases across the nation today, one or both parties go to court alone, unrepresented by an attorney,” says the Commission’s website. “Our mission is to facilitate collaboration that ensures equal access to civil legal assistance for all South Carolinians. The Commission is charged with identifying the scope of the need for civil legal services, and developing a long-term plan for ensuring that every person who needs representation can get it.”

La’Jessica’s practice with Robinson Gray focuses on commercial litigation.

Before joining Robinson Gray, she was an assistant solicitor in the 11th Circuit Solicitor’s office, where she prosecuted domestic violence, sexual assaults, and other violent crimes. Before that, she served as a law clerk to the Honorable John Cannon Few with the South Carolina Court of Appeals and the South Carolina Supreme Court.

La’Jessica is a 2011 graduate of Virginia State University, and received her Juris Doctor in 2015 from the University of South Carolina School of Law.

“Thank you for your willingness to accept this appointment,” Beatty said in his letter. “I am confident that the Commission will benefit from your service and commitment to helping those in need of civil legal assistance.”

“We’re very proud to see La’Jessica serve in this role,” said Cal Watson, the law firm’s managing member. “As co-chair of our firm’s pro bono committee, La’Jessica is passionate about ensuring legal representation is accessible for all people, regardless of their socio-economic level. This is a well-deserved appointment and perfect extension of her pro-bono leadership.”
