Lander Professor of History Honored  

Lander University Professor of History Dr. Robert Figueira has been elected to a three-year term as an Executive Council member of the South Carolina Historical Association (SCHA).

Figueira, a medievalist, has had a long relationship with the SCHA, serving as co-editor of its journal, “Proceedings of the South Carolina Historical Association,” for 13 years.

He was also recently honored by the Medieval Academy of America (MAA), which nominated him to serve on its Monica H. Green Prize Committee, charged with selecting the winner of the MAA’s Monica H. Green Prize, awarded annually “to honor scholarship and public engagement that demonstrates the importance of studying the past to understand the present.

Figueira will serve on the committee for three years, acting as chair in 2025-2026, his final year.
