Landowners can apply for agricultural use special valuation online

Agricultural use applications are now available online through the Richland County Assessor’s Office.
Landowners who use their property for bona fide agriculture purposes can apply for a special valuation to have their real property tax bill based on the type of agricultural use, rather than market value. The special valuation applies to property owners who:
- Own five or more acres of timberland devoted to growing trees for commercial use, or
- Own 10 or more acres of non-timberland (typically cropland)
Residents should apply on the County’s website at richlandcountysc.gov/assessor/apps. Applicants will get an automated email verifying their application was received, as well as an email about the application’s status or if more documentation is needed.
Landowners who already receive the special valuation do not need to reapply.
Agricultural use applications are the latest Assessor’s Office service to go online. This advance makes for a quicker, easier process than in the past and will help the office in its effort to go paperless.
Assessor Liz McDonald said, “We have seen great success with the online applications and look forward to the real-property owners of Richland County becoming more and more accustomed to using the landing page” on the County’s website.
Other online services for residents include legal residence applications, mailing address change applications and property value and tax estimate inquiries, all of which can also be found on the Assessor Applications page.
