Larry Hunt Named BJA Secondary Principal

March 23, 2015

GREENVILLE, SC – Dr. Dan Nelson, Bob Jones Academy administrator, today announced the appointment of Larry Hunt as principal of BJA’s secondary division effective June 29. Mr. Hunt’s appointment will enable Dr. Nelson, who has been both administrator and secondary principal, to devote fulltime to the administrator position.

“Mr. Hunt brings a wealth of experience to the principal’s position that will benefit the Academy,” said Nelson, “as well as an evident love for the Lord and for his students.”

A member of the BJA faculty the last 10 years, Hunt teaches English 12, Journalism, Creative Writing and Personal Evangelism and Discipleship. He serves as head of the English department and as a senior class sponsor. For the last two years, Hunt has also supported Bob Jones University’s intercollegiate men’s basketball program as assistant coach.

“The experience of serving as both BJA administrator and secondary principal was invaluable, “ said Nelson, “but we need to separate the two roles to give me time to advance initiatives for the entire Academy and promote and implement the school’s vision. I look forward to greater interaction with parents, faculty and staff and to watching God work in upcoming days.”

Prior to joining BJA, Hunt was principal of Baptist Bible Academy, Waterford, Connecticut, for over 20 years, after serving five years as the elementary supervisor and an elementary teacher at the school. During that time, he also served for 10 years as vice president of the Connecticut Association of Christian Schools.

Hunt has held interim pastor positions both in Rhode Island and South Carolina and currently serves in the adult Sunday school ministry at Faith Baptist Church in Taylors.

He holds a BS in Elementary Education (1979) and a MS in Educational Administration and Supervision (1984)—both from Bob Jones University.

Hunt and his wife Melanie have two adult sons.
