During the virus-slowed, football season just passed, Laurens Academy was the only county team to have a winning record, make the playoffs and complete the season.
Thus the Laurens County Touchdown Club’s selections of Thomas Lowry as Player of the Year and Todd Kirk as Coach of the Year were not upsets. Lowry passed for 47 touchdowns and ran for 19. Kirk led his team to its best record in a decade.
South Carolina State’s affable head coach, Oliver “Buddy” Pough, delivered a humorous and inspirational keynote address, and the all-county team, announced last week, was honored and introduced.
