Mark your calendars for an evening filled with rhythm, melody, and the unmistakable energy of Latin jazz! The Presbyterian College Jazz Band, under the direction of Giovani Briguente, invites you to experience the fusion of jazz and Latin sounds at their upcoming concert on April 15th at 7:30 PM. The event will take place at the Belk Auditorium on the PC Campus in Clinton, and best of all, it’s free and open to the public! Casual attire is welcome, so come as you are and get ready to enjoy a musical journey.

The Presbyterian College Jazz Band has a reputation for pushing musical boundaries. Last year, they captivated audiences with a bold blend of jazz and rock, and in December, they explored the funky side of jazz with the Funk Time! concert. Now, they’re diving into Latin jazz, offering a night that promises both tradition and innovation.

“Latin jazz is such a vibrant and exciting genre,” said Giovani Briguente, Director of the Presbyterian College Jazz Band. “Our students have embraced the challenge of learning these rhythms and styles, and we can’t wait to share this unique musical experience with the community.”

The program opens with the familiar and spirited La Cucaracha, setting the mood with its traditional sound. Audiences will then experience the vibrant pulse of mambo through Puente’s Puerto Rican style and Prado’s Cuban flair, capped off with the ever-popular Oye Como Va.

As the night unfolds, the band will introduce more progressive Latin jazz with pieces like Afro Blue and Chu Cho. A more intimate jazz combo will perform Bien Sabroso and Monk, giving listeners a chance to appreciate the intricate melodies and rhythms that define the genre.

The grand finale will showcase the diversity of Latin jazz, beginning with the Brazilian samba classic Mas Que Nada, followed by Gillespie’s A Night in Tunisia, which blends bebop with Afro-Cuban influences. This energetic closer will leave the audience on their feet, ready to dance and celebrate.

Join the Presbyterian College Jazz Band, led by the talented Director Giovani Briguente, for an evening where jazz meets Latin flair. Whether you’re a seasoned jazz enthusiast or simply looking for a night of vibrant music, this concert promises an unforgettable experience.
