Laurens County Buzz Named One of South Carolina’s Best Publications for 2025

June 30, 2025

The Laurens County Buzz, Laurens County’s first news platform to combine a dedicated online news site with a twice-weekly e-newsletter, has been named a “Best of South Carolina” publication by Guide to South Carolina in its 2025 statewide rankings. The award honors the Buzz’s ongoing commitment to delivering timely and relevant coverage of both local stories and statewide issues that impact Laurens County communities.

Founded and published by Brenda Stewart, a longtime Clinton resident and communications strategist, the Buzz launched in September 2020 to fill a vital gap in accessible local journalism. What began as a grassroots effort to provide relevant news and updates has become a trusted regional publication, delivering a mix of community spotlights, business features, nonprofit highlights, and state policy news that matters to Laurens County residents.

“I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built with the Laurens County Buzz,” said Stewart. “Our goal has always been to connect, inform, and inspire—shining a light on the good things happening in our county while keeping our readers informed about important developments across South Carolina that affect our daily lives.”

Stewart added, “I am passionate about sharing the good news of Laurens County—and there is so much to share. I also know that people like to get information in different ways. The website is there for those who want to check for updates and news at their convenience, and the newsletter every Tuesday and Thursday brings the news directly to their inbox for easy access.”

Local leaders echoed the value of the Buzz to the community.

“The Laurens County Buzz plays an important role in keeping our community informed, connected, and engaged,” said Sheriff Don Reynolds of the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office. “In today’s world, it’s easy for good news to get buried—but the Buzz consistently shines a spotlight on the positive efforts happening across Laurens County, including the work of local law enforcement. We appreciate the Buzz’s commitment to honest reporting and its support of those who serve.”

Dabs Davis, President and CEO of the Laurens County Chamber of Commerce, added, “The Laurens County Buzz has become an essential part of our county’s communications landscape. From promoting local businesses and nonprofits to covering important community updates, the Buzz provides a consistent, reliable voice for Laurens County. We’re proud to see this innovative platform recognized as one of the Best of South Carolina—it’s a well-earned honor and a reflection of the impact it makes every week.”

Published twice a week via email newsletter, the Buzz also features new content on its website daily. The platform was a trailblazer in the region, offering free accounts to local businesses, nonprofits, schools, churches, and civic organizations. Through these accounts, users can create directory listings, share press releases, post events, and upload job openings—all at no cost.

The Buzz’s mission remains focused on informing residents, promoting local businesses, and celebrating the people and opportunities that make Laurens County a special place to live and work. From stories on family-owned enterprises and nonprofit initiatives to interviews with community leaders and state policy updates, the Buzz continues to serve as a trusted voice in the region.
