Laurens County Chorale Brings ‘Voices of America’ to Clinton and Laurens this Weekend

April 29, 2026

The Laurens County Chorale will present its spring concert, “Voices of America,” this Friday and Sunday, offering the community two opportunities to experience a musical celebration of 250 years of America in song.

The program traces the nation’s story through music, drawing from traditional American folk songs, African-American folk songs, western songs, and selections by some of the country’s most celebrated composers. It weaves together the many threads that make up the full American story across two and a half centuries. Under the direction of Kipper Ackerman, with Andrew Sheffield serving as collaborative pianist, the chorale draws from talented voices across the county to deliver a performance both reflective and uplifting.

“The Laurens County Chorale is made up of some of the most dedicated singers in this community, and this program is truly a joy for all of us,” Ackerman said. “We wanted to take audiences on a journey through the story of America — the songs that have carried this nation through its greatest moments — and celebrate together as we approach this incredible milestone of 250 years. I hope everyone will come out and be a part of it.”

The concert follows a remarkable series of patriotic performances at Presbyterian College that have stirred community pride in recent weeks, including last Sunday’s stunning “America’s Anthem: 250 Years in Song” concert at Belk Auditorium. For those who missed those performances, “Voices of America” offers another chance to get in the spirit as the country counts down to the milestone celebration of America’s 250th birthday this July 4.

Two performances are scheduled:

Friday, May 1, at 7:30 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1387 Highway 56 South, Clinton

Sunday, May 3, at 4:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 400 West Main Street, Laurens

Admission is $10 per person. Tickets are available at the door or from any chorale member.
