Laurens County Council Elects New Leadership to Begin 2025
January 13, 2025Laurens County Council convened for its first meeting of the year on January 13, 2025, with the election of officers as the primary order of business. The seven-member council, representing districts across the county, selected its new leadership team to guide the year ahead.
Council Members include:
- Kemp Younts – District 1
- Matthew Brownlee – District 2
- Shirley Clark – District 3
- Brown Patterson – District 4
- Jeff Carroll – District 5
- Arthur Philson – District 6
- Justin Lane – District 7
Election of Chair
The council’s first vote was for Chair. Justin Lane nominated Jeff Carroll, and the motion was seconded with no other nominations made. Carrol was unanimously elected as Chair with a 7-0 vote.
“I’m honored to serve as Chair and look forward to working with the council to address the needs of our community,” said Chair Jeff Carroll. “Together, we will build on past successes and continue striving for progress across Laurens County.”
Election of Vice Chair
For the Vice Chair position, two nominations were made. Brown Patterson nominated Shirley Clark, while Arthur Philson nominated Matthew Brownlee. After a vote, Brownlee received five votes to Clark’s two, securing his position as Vice Chair.
“I’m grateful for the trust of my fellow council members,” said Vice Chair Matthew Brownlee. “I’m committed to serving the citizens of Laurens County and ensuring we make decisions that benefit everyone in our community.”
With Chair Jeff Carroll and Vice Chair Matthew Brownlee at the helm, the council is set to address the county’s priorities and initiatives in 2025, focusing on growth, infrastructure, and community well-being.
