Laurens County Humane Society to Break Ground on New Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Facility

May 21, 2025

The Laurens County Humane Society will break ground on a long-anticipated low-cost spay and neuter facility Tuesday, May 27 at 3:30 PM. The public is invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony at 793 Poplar Street in Clinton, where the 900-square-foot building will be constructed by local contractor P&F Construction.

The project is expected to take approximately five to six months to complete. Once operational, the clinic will provide affordable spay and neuter services to pet owners across Laurens County.

“This is a much-needed step forward for our community,” said Marvin Moss, a board member of the Laurens County Humane Society. “Far too many families are unable to afford these critical services, and we believe this facility will have a real and lasting impact on the overpopulation of dogs and cats in our area.”

The Humane Society serves all of Laurens County and cares for both dogs and cats. Like many counties across South Carolina, Laurens faces a growing challenge with stray and unwanted animals. The cost of traditional veterinary services can be a barrier for families with limited income, often leaving spay and neuter procedures out of reach.

To help equip the new facility, the Humane Society is actively fundraising and seeking community support. “We’re thrilled about this new chapter,” said Moss. “But we still need help to fully outfit the clinic with the necessary medical equipment to begin serving our county’s pets and their people.”
