Laurens County launches official government Facebook page

Laurens County government now has an official presence on Facebook, giving residents a single place to find county announcements, meeting information and service updates.

Public Information Officer Darbi Jackson announced the new page during the Laurens County Council regular session Monday, Aug. 10, at the Historic Courthouse, telling council the page would go live the following day, Aug. 11.

The page is one of the first major initiatives to come out of the county’s newly filled public information officer position. Jackson, who has served as legal assistant to County Attorney Wes Meetze since May 2024, officially stepped into the PIO role July 1, 2026. She continues to report to the county attorney, and the public information office sits under the legal department.

When the position was announced this summer, Jackson identified a verified county Facebook page as an early goal, describing it as a central hub where residents could find accurate information without having to hunt across multiple sources. Other early priorities include recording more board and committee meetings for the county’s YouTube page.

“Laurens County strives to maintain transparency and provide resources for Laurens County citizens to be involved in government activities,” Jackson said when she was named to the role. “I hope to expand and improve those efforts.”

The county already has several related pages online, including Laurens County Emergency Management, the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office and the Laurens County Development Corporation. The new page is intended to serve as the general county government account, covering council business, county departments, public notices and other countywide information.
