Laurens County receives $2.3 million for road improvements

At the beginning of 2026, Laurens County receivedapproximately $2.3 million from the County Transportation Committee (‘CTC’) to conduct road

 improvements on select Laurens County roads. These funds are provided by the State through the state motor fuel user fees, which are collected from transactions at gas pumps within South Carolina. Please see the list below consisting of Laurens County roads that are set to receive road improvements.

What is the CTC and how are the roads chosen?

The CTC is made up of seven (7) members, each being a resident of Laurens County, and is appointed by the state legislative delegation. The funds were given directly to the CTC from the state, at which time Laurens County prepared a list of roads that are in need of improvements.

Laurens County staff created the list of roads from submitted work orders, as well as calls and/or complaints made by citizens. Once Laurens County proposed this list of roads to the CTC, members of the CTC conducted “road rides” with Laurens County staff to prioritize these road improvements. Once the roads were prioritized, Laurens County followed a formal procurement process to select a qualified contractor for the project..

When are improvements expected to begin?

Improvements on the selected Laurens County roads will begin within the next sixty (60) days and improvements are expected to take approximately four (4) to six (6) weeks to complete.

While the present list contains twenty-seven (27) roads that will undergo improvements, Laurens County staff continues to dedicate their time to seek additional opportunities for improvements throughout the county. The goal is to provide a greater experience for all who reside, or simply choose to visit, our beautiful county.
