Laurens County seeks paid poll managers for Nov. 3 general election

September 19, 2026

The Laurens County Board of Voter Registration and Elections is recruiting paid poll managers to staff polling places across the county. Training is provided before Election Day, so no prior experience is needed.

“Our poll managers are the backbone of every election in Laurens County,” said Lynne West, director of the Laurens County Board of Voter Registration and Elections. “They open the doors in the morning, greet every voter and make sure the process runs smoothly and fairly. We provide all the training, so anyone who wants to serve their community can do this job.”

Poll managers help set up voting equipment, check in voters, issue ballots, answer questions and close polling locations at the end of the day. Clerks, who are experienced poll managers, lead each polling place.

Poll managers must be registered to vote in South Carolina. Residents ages 16 and 17 may apply to serve as poll manager assistants. Clerks must be registered voters in Laurens County or a neighboring county. State law prohibits candidates and their immediate family members from serving at polling places where the candidate’s name appears on the ballot.

Training must be completed before each election and is offered in person or online. Poll managers work the full day, from before polls open at 7 a.m. until after they close at 7 p.m., and must remain nonpartisan while on duty. Applicants comfortable with computers and tablets, as well as bilingual English and Spanish speakers, are especially encouraged to apply.

“It is a long day, but it is a rewarding one,” West said. “Many of our poll managers come back election after election because they enjoy seeing their neighbors and knowing they helped keep our elections accurate and trustworthy.”

The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
