LCDC Quarterly Meeting Recap

March 27, 2024

The Laurens County Development Corporation (LCDC) held their quarterly meeting on March 19, 2024. As part of the meeting, Lynn Finley provided an update on existing industry, Jonathan Coleman provided an update on economic Development Activity, and Whitney Lagrange presented a marketing update. Below is a recap from their reports.

Business/Industry Update:

The LCDC commenced its quarterly meeting with an overview of the business and industry landscape. Following a remarkable performance in 2023, the pace remains consistent with last year’s record. The organization reported receiving 18 requests for information (RFIs) thus far, mirroring the same count as this same point in time last year. Moreover, seven prospects have already visited, with two more scheduled for the upcoming week.

A significant decision made during the meeting was the approval of a $250,000 grant to complement a $350,000 grant from the SC Department of Commerce. This joint funding is earmarked for the construction of a new road at Clinton 26 Commerce Park, thereby expanding available land for development.

Additionally, LCDC greenlit a grant under its inaugural Small Industry Grant Program. The recipient, MPF Products, is set to embark on a $1.5 million expansion of their facility.

Furthermore, the approval of a right-of-way easement at the Northside Industrial Site in Laurens was announced. This easement facilitates the installation of a power line to serve Laurens CPW’s new substation at Hunter Industrial Park.

Marketing Update:

Whitney Lagrange, LCDC’s Director of Marketing, provided insights into recent marketing endeavors. Notably, LCDC sponsored a memorable event at the PC women’s and men’s basketball game, fostering community engagement. Recognizing the scheduling constraints of a Saturday game, LCDC hosted a pre-game happy hour at The Lumberyard on the preceding Tuesday to ensure broader participation and support for the Blue Hose.

Addressing administrative delays, Lagrange acknowledged the postponement in the design and printing of the 2023 Annual Reports due to late announcements in December. Despite these challenges, the reports were dispatched mid-March to industry stakeholders, investors, the board, and community leaders.

LCDC staff also attended the SC Power Team’s 2024 Economic Development Review (EDR) earlier this month. This invitation-only event provided a platform for key stakeholders in the economic development sector to discuss initiatives, industry trends, success stories, and community preparedness. LaGrange emphasized the significance of networking and relationship-building opportunities presented at the event.

In summary, LCDC’s quarterly meeting highlighted ongoing successes in business development, strategic investments, and community engagement initiatives, underscoring the organization’s commitment to fostering economic growth in Laurens County.
