LCSO’s Biggest Fundraiser of the Year Gives You a Perfectly Legal Reason to Get Someone Arrested
May 20, 2026Word on the street is that the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the largest roundup of willing suspects in county history — and they are looking for a few more good criminals.
The LCSO’s annual Jail and Bail fundraiser returns Friday, May 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at The Plaza on the Historic Courthouse Square in downtown Laurens. As the Sheriff’s Office’s largest fundraiser of the year, every dollar raised goes directly to the Christmas for Kids program, which provides Christmas assistance to hundreds of children across Laurens County.
The concept is simple and, frankly, a little too fun. Participants volunteer to be “arrested,” set a personal bail goal of at least $100, and spend the weeks leading up to the event rallying friends, family, and coworkers to spring them. Those who raise their bail in advance can skip the holding cell on event day — though they are still encouraged to show up, snap a mugshot, and enjoy the festivities.
For the holdouts who haven’t made bail by May 22, the real adventure begins. Participants will have the chance to work the phones from “jail,” calling anyone willing to donate to earn their release. And for those who want to make it extra memorable, a deputy can be arranged to show up and “arrest” an unsuspecting coworker or friend on the day of the event.
Businesses, teams, families, and individuals are all welcome — and repeat offenders are especially encouraged to return.
“This is one of our favorite events each year because it brings the community together in such a fun and engaging way, while making a real impact for local children,” said Chris Martin, Chief Deputy for the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office. “Every dollar raised goes toward helping make Christmas brighter for kids in Laurens County, and we’re grateful for the continued support from our community.”

There may never be a better reason to get arrested. Consider this your invitation.
