Leadership Georgetown County adds second supply drive in support of area school nurses
April 13, 2026The Leadership Georgetown County Class 33, in partnership with the Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce, is calling on the community to support its efforts to provide medical supplies and other basic necessities to the 19 dedicated nurses of the Georgetown County School District as they serve our students in need.
The Leadership Class consists of individuals representing area businesses, government agencies and nonprofit organizations across Georgetown County. For its community impact project, they are renovating a dedicated meeting and training space at the Howard Center, which will feature a fully stocked supply closet for the nurses. They have added a second supply drive which will happen this Saturday, April 18 from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Food Lion in the Litchfield Village Market (115 Willbrook Blvd.) in Pawleys Island. There is another collection planned for Saturday, April 25, from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Georgetown Walmart (1310 N. Fraser Street).
Class members will be distributing bookmarks with a list of items needed for the school nurse supply closet, including basic hygiene items and clothing like belts, socks and underwear, that allow students to return to class for instruction rather than heading home after a medical emergency or accident. Shoppers can purchase the items in-store and then give to the volunteers who will transport the items to the Howard Center supply closet.
Many people don’t realize that when a student needs a fresh pair of socks, a hair tie, or basic hygiene items, our nurses often pay for these supplies out of their own pockets. “These supplies are not always provided by the district,” explains Lead Nurse Ashley McCall.
