Leadership Lexington County partners with Dickerson Children’s Advocacy Center for service project benefiting children impacted by abuse

April 19, 2021

The Leadership Lexington County (LLC) Class of 2021 today announced the launch of its fundraising efforts for the benefit of the Dickerson Children’s Advocacy Center (DCAC), a child-focused facility that provides forensic interviews, forensic medicals, mental health and victim advocate services to victims of child abuse between the ages of 0 to 18.

The Class aims to raise more than $40,000 to create an outdoor extension of the Center to be used by clients and their families. Currently, the Center’s outdoor space consists of a wooden bridge and gazebo structure that is unusable due to past damage.

Money raised by LLC will fund supplies and construction costs to create a safe, tranquil outdoor setting for DCAC services and events. The project will renovate the existing wooden structures and add new amenities, including landscaping and outdoor lighting. Once completed, the Center plans to incorporate activities that can be held in the new space, such as outdoor yoga and expressive art sessions.

“The Leadership Lexington County Class of 2021 is thrilled to partner with Dickerson Children’s Advocacy Center to provide a beautiful, functional outdoor extension to their facility,” said Nicholle Burroughs, Class Chair. “The children receiving services from Dickerson have experienced unthinkable trauma, and they deserve to have a tranquil outdoor space to receive the resources and connection provided by the Center. It is truly an honor to provide this space to such a deserving organization.”

The first fundraising event will kick off on Tuesday, April 20, with a $10 all-you-can-eat Pancake Night at Eggs Up Grill in Lexington from 4 to 7 p.m. (205 Columbia Avenue, Lexington, SC 29072). Anyone interested in attending or supporting the fundraiser can purchase a ticket online through LLC’s Pancake Supper Fundraiser Facebook event. Additional fundraising events will take place in the upcoming months, and individuals and businesses can also support the project through monetary donations via PayPal or sponsorship options.

The service project launch follows the 10th Annual Children’s Advocacy Center Day on April 7, 2021, and also coincides with Child Abuse Awareness Month.
