October 19, 2026State report cards rank Legacy Early College among South Carolina’s top-performing high-poverty schools
Legacy Early College’s high school and middle school both earned Excellent, the state’s top rating, on South Carolina’s 2026 school report cards, released October 12. The high school scored 69.67 of 100 points and the middle school scored 55.51. Statewide, only 103 of 258 high schools and 73 of 355 middle schools earned an Excellent rating.
What makes it stand out is who Legacy Early College serves. Its poverty index sits at 81.3, among the highest in South Carolina, while most schools that outscored it on the overall report card have a poverty index between 20 and 50. Legacy Early College is the only high school in Greenville County with a poverty index above 80 to earn an Excellent rating this year. Statewide, its high school ranked third of 65 high schools with a poverty index of 80 or higher, and its middle school ranked fourth of 101 schools in that same group.
“What makes this even more special is that it all happened during National Principals Month! We are proud of our scholars, staff, leaders and families who helped make these historic achievements possible!” said LaCheryl Coleman, Ed.S., Interim High School Principal, Legacy Early College.
The high school’s four-year graduation rate kept climbing too, reaching 97.8%, up from 97.2% last year, 95.7% in 2024 and 94.7% in 2023. The high school earned Excellent marks in graduation rate, college and career readiness, and high school success, with a Good mark in academic achievement. The middle school earned an Excellent in student progress and a Good in academic achievement.
Legacy Early College’s dual enrollment numbers tell a similar story. The high school ranked 14th among 254 South Carolina high schools for the share of graduates who earned college credit through dual enrollment. Of the 89 scholars in this year’s graduating class, 54, or 60.7%, met the state’s college-ready threshold through dual-enrollment coursework, more than three times the statewide median of 17.6%. Among Legacy Early College’s current 11th and 12th graders, 49.7% have already completed at least six hours of dual-credit coursework with a C or better, ranking 16th of 249 high schools statewide, and 58.9% are enrolled in dual-enrollment courses this year, also 16th statewide. Legacy Early College ranks first among all 16 Greenville County School District high schools on each of those three measures.
