Legendary Bluesman Mac Arnold Set to Kick Off Mauldin’s 2026 Amp’d Up Fridays
May 25, 2026The countdown to the Golden Strip’s favorite summer concert tradition is officially down to its final days. This week, the Mauldin Cultural Center will transform its outdoor amphitheater into a bustling oasis of live music, food trucks, and neighborhood dancing as it welcomes the official launch of the 2026 Amp’d Up Fridays season.
Setting the stage for the 10-week summer series on Friday night, May 29, 2026, is none other than Upstate regional royalty and global blues icon: Mac Arnold & Plate Full O’ Blues.
The free outdoor event will run from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM at the Mauldin Cultural Center Amphitheater, located at 101 East Butler Road.
From Muddy Waters to an Organic Farm: A Blues Legend’s Return
For music fans across the Upstate, catching Mac Arnold live is a masterclass in American music history. Born right down the road in Pelzer, South Carolina, Arnold famously learned to play on his brother’s homemade gas-can guitar at just ten years old. By his twenties, his extraordinary bass-playing talent had landed him directly in the epicenter of the 1960s Chicago electric blues movement.
Arnold was hired on the spot by the legendary Muddy Waters, touring and recording on some of the definitive tracks that ultimately shaped the global rock-and-roll movement. Over his jaw-dropping career, he went on to play bass on the iconic Sanford and Son television theme song, work alongside Don Cornelius on Soul Train, and back musical giants like B.B. King, the Temptations, Otis Redding, and John Lee Hooker.
After briefly retiring from show business to return to South Carolina as an organic farmer, Arnold’s passion for the music pulled him back to the stage. Today, alongside his powerhouse band, Plate Full O’ Blues, the master showman continues to deliver a rich, high-energy blend of deep blues, classic soul, and infectious funk.
