Lennar Donates $5,000 to Waccamaw Youth Center to Support At-Risk Children in the Grand Strand Area

July 31, 2012

CHARLESTON, SC – July 31, 2012 – For the third consecutive year, Lennar Homes has made a $5,000 donation to Waccamaw Youth Center, Horry County’s first and only low management group home.

Waccamaw Youth Center, Inc. is a private, non-profit agency committed to providing comprehensive residential services for up to 20 abused, neglected, and abandoned youth ages 12-21. It is the first and only low management group home in Horry County.

At Lennar, we believe our business is about building dreams. We know that our responsibility to our community consists of far more than just building and delivering quality homes, said Lennar’s Coastal Carolina Division President Sam Sparks.  Waccamaw Youth Center seeks to do the same by giving children the skills build a better life.

Cierra Larrimore, Assistant Director of Wacamaw Youth Center said of the donation and Lennar’s involvement, This is the third year for Lennar Homes to make a contribution at this financial level. Lennar has been very involved with Waccamaw Youth Center for six years. The employees at Lennar come out to the Center and they do hands on projects with the kids and they help us by holding work days to repair things around the community. They also host the boy’s birthday parties giving each boy a cake and a gift. And at Christmas they host our Christmas party and provide gifts to all the children. Lennar is very hands on. They know the children and want to be part of their lives. They are always thinking about us. Lennar’s support means everything to us. As you can imagine, our day to day expenses are not small so $5,000 can take us a long way. As an example can possibly pay for a year’s worth of electric bills or for one month’s food.
