The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society announces Pamela Brubaker as candidate for Woman of the Year

Pamela Brubaker will Join Local Leaders to Compete for the Title of Woman of the Year

The Midlands Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) announced that Pamela Brubaker of Columbia has been nominated as a candidate for LLS’s 2017 Woman of the Year. Candidates across the country compete in honor of a local boy or girl who is a blood cancer survivor, to raise the most funds for blood cancer research.

Brubaker, President of Capital Development, is one of an elite group of community and business leaders who will compete for the titles of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Man & Woman of the Year. Competing for these titles is an honor surrounded with a great deal of fanfare, including a full-page ad in USA Today. However, the most important reason candidates participate is to find cures for blood cancers and ensure that patients have access to lifesaving treatments. Brubaker is competing for Woman of the Year in honor of her brother, an AML survivor.

As a candidate, Brubaker will raise funds for a world without blood cancers between March 7th and May 18th, 2017. Every dollar she raises will count as one “vote” in her favor. The male and female candidates with the most “votes” will be awarded the titles Midlands Man & Woman of the Year at a Grand Finale on May 18th at the SC State Museum. The local winners are then entered into the competition for National Man & Woman of the Year titles.

“The Man & Woman of the Year program is a great way for candidates to partner with other influential people in their communities to bring hope to thousands of blood cancer patients,” said South Carolina Executive Director Paul Jeter. “Candidates get to showcase their fundraising and community outreach skills as well as their humanitarianism.”

There are many ways you can support Brubaker in her quest for a world without blood cancers. Become a member of her campaign team, sponsor the Grand Finale on May 18th or simply pledge to make a donation during her campaign. To learn more about Man & Woman of the Year, visit www.MWOY.org/SC.
