Lexington County officials urge public to stay home, off roads

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. – As emergency operations in Lexington County shift from response to assessment and recovery, officials say residents should stay home throughout Monday evening and night.
While there will be no curfew enacted, residents should limit travel to what is absolutely essential. Open roads are crucial to first responders and other emergency workers as they travel to calls for service and assess damage from flood waters. Do not drive through standing or moving water. If you see a barricade or water, turn around and avoid the area.
Flood Water
Avoid contact with any standing or moving water. Flood waters and standing waters pose various risks, including infectious diseases, chemical hazards and injuries.
Evacuations and shelters
Residents who live within a quarter mile of the Lexington County banks of the Saluda River should seriously consider leaving the area and staying with family or friends, or at one of three Lexington County shelters.

- White Knoll High School, 5643 Platt Springs Road in Lexington
School closures
All Lexington County school districts have canceled classes for Tuesday. Oct. 6.
Lexington County government offices
All Lexington County government offices will be closed tomorrow. This will include the following offices:
- County Libraries
- Lexington County Recreations and Aging Commission Offices and Activities
- County Judicial Facilities
- County Administration offices
- Lexington County Judicial Center
- Lexington County Magistrate Courts
- Solid Waste Collection & Recycling Centers
- Lexington County Landfill & Solid Waste Administrative Offices
- All Lexington County school districts
Bond Court:
Court will operate from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. depending on road conditions.
Curbside Solid Waste Collection:
No Franchise Residential Solid Waste Curbside Collection service will be provided on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 in the unincorporated areas of Lexington County. Service may resume on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015 for Household Garbage Only and will run on an adjusted pickup schedule for the rest of the week.
Advanced Disposal Customers: Collections normally scheduled for Monday and Tuesday will be made on Wednesday, Wednesday will move to Thursday, Thursday to Friday and Friday toSaturday.
Waste Industries Customers: Collections normally scheduled for Monday and Tuesday will be made on Wednesday, Wednesday will move to Thursday, Thursday to Friday and Friday toSaturday.
