Lexington District One ACT scores top state average

Lexington County School District One continues to outperform the state average on the ACT with an average score of 19.7, according to scores recently released by the South Carolina Department of Education. The district’s average score ranks tenth in the state including all public-school districts, the S.C. Public Charter School District and the Governor’s schools.
Lexington District One had 1,173-student test-takers in 2020; a slight increase from 2019 when 1,149 students took the ACT.
The state and Lexington District One saw a minor dip in total average ACT scores. In 2019, the district’s average score was 20.3 compared to 19.7 in 2020. The state average for public schools lowered from 18.6 in 2019 to 18.1 in 2020.
The ACT is a national college admissions examination that consists of subject area tests in English, mathematics, reading and science. The test includes 215 multiple-choice questions, with 36 as the highest possible score. The test is usually taken during a student’s junior or senior year of high school.
