The National Federation of State High School Associations named River Bluff High School’s Brian J. Lim the 2019–2020 Southern Section Girls Tennis Coach of the Year. The South Section includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Honorees are selected based on performance, coaching philosophy, and community and school involvement. The South Carolina High School League nominated Lim for the honor.

“The success of RBHS’s women’s tennis program is because of our supportive administration and the great players,” said Lim. “I’ve been blessed with players with great talent and exceptional character. They set high expectations, worked hard, showed resilience during tough times and hold one another accountable. As a coach that’s what it’s all about — helping student athletes recognize their potential and watching them excel while exhibiting high character.”

In November 2020, Lim also was named the 2019–2020 Girls Tennis Coach of the Year by the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association.

In his six years as head coach, the RBHS girls’ tennis team won the region title five times, and earned the state title in 2017 and 2019. Lim boasts a record of 118 wins and just 17 losses. He also was named the region Coach of the Year four times.

Lim teaches mathematics. A native of Lexington, Lim earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics, a Master of Arts in teaching and a Master of Education in educational administration from the University of South Carolina.
